the cellar and point

an adventurous new sextet that combines the detail of modern concert music, the emotional directness of alt-rock, and the improvisational sensibilities of downtown jazz into a cohesive whole.  young composer-performers joseph branciforte (drums) and chris botta (guitar) have assembled have assembled an unlikely cross-section of NYC talent to perform their “garage-chamber” compositions.  Time Out NY recommends “this brainy, yet highly engaging group to fans of The Claudia Quintet’s ethereal chamber-prog.”

Joining forces with iconoclastic improvisers Matt Moran of the Claudia Quintet (vibraphone) and James Ilgenfritz (bass) and powerhouse modern classical performers Chris Otto and Kevin McFarland of the JACK quartet (violin and cello), the cellar and point attempts to synthesize the members’ diverse musical experience into a unified ensemble aesthetic.
